Where Are The Beach Barbells?

On the note of outdoor lifting a photo:

It’s at least a 135 clean and jerk from a chick on beach sand in likely the 1940s or earlier.

This was a hanging photo on the wall of this little hole in the wall gym I lifted at once. Taking a photo of the photo was an opportunity too good to pass up.

Yes I edited it a bit. I made the original black and white more black and white to get the reflection of me due to the florescent lighting out. You should still be able to pick the cliffs, sea, sand, and a few small rocks out.

I ask this: Why do we see no one doing clean and jerks on the sand now?

As a society have we allowed chicks from the WW2 era to be more robust physically than us?

(On that note : it’s quite possible we have. My Grandma had stories of a cousin?, who’d likely been Airborne, teaching her and her brothers how to jump from height using progressively higher parts of the home, and survive. My Grandma in that time period was actually doing some cool physical stuff, and may in fact be the PT stud grandma spoken of in military cadences.)

Seriously the chick cleaned a plate in sand. Even though whoever she is did this 70+ years ago and is now likely dead, her feat still impresses me.  Go out and do anything in sand. It requires far more explosiveness than a floor, which coincidentally may have been one of Tommy Kono’s secrets being that he often lifted in his dirt floor basement.

Figured I’d throw this little iron game gem online.
